Phobio Consumer Data Protection and the CCPA
On January 1, 2020, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) went into effect and became the first legislation in the U.S. to give consumers control over how their personal information is used online. The CCPA, officially called AB 375, gives California residents the right to know how much of their personal information is stored within a company’s database as well as the right to request a full list of the third parties that their data is shared with. Consumers can also ask companies bound by CCPA to delete their personal data.
Any company that serves California residents and has at least $25 million in annual revenue must comply with the law. Additionally, companies of any size that have personal data on at least 50,000 people or that collect more than half of their revenues from the sale of personal data must comply with the CCPA.

To protect both personal information, we perform secure data erasure from every device that we receive. This wipes everything from photos and music to biometric information and geographic data completely clean from the smartphone, laptop, or tablet. If any media or data cannot be erased, we’ll recycle the device instead of reselling it.
Personal information that we receive as part of the device trade-in process, such as a customer’s name and home address, is always encrypted to protect customer privacy. This guarantees that only our internal team can access and use customer information as they assist with trade-ins. We also conduct annual security audits to ensure our platform is secure, stable, and always available.
To ensure that Phobio is in full compliance with the CCPA, we have reexamined our data storage procedures and have made minor engineering changes to meet each of the requirements set forth in the privacy act. Most importantly, Phobio has never, and will never, sell customer data to third parties.
